Decision day looms closer and closer for one of the Red Sox' big free agent targets, Pablo Sandoval. According to Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe, the Red Sox offered the 28-year-old third baseman a contract this afternoon. While terms of an offer have not been reported, Sandoval and his representation have reportedly been discussing a contract of at least five years in length.
The San Francisco Giants reportedly made a five year, $90 million offer to Sandoval recently according to a report from Bay Area Sports Guy. Sandoval hopes to make a decision on where he is playing sooner rather than later and it's looking more and more like the contract he ends up with will be in the five year territory. Sandoval enjoyed his time touring Fenway Park on Tuesday, according to a source, and meetings with the team's upper management proved to be productive.
Peter Gammons also stated that David Ortiz took Sandoval out to dinner the night the free agent arrived in Boston with his brother and his agent.
