Missed Sunday Night Baseball, in which the Red Sox defeated the Yankees 9-2 and pushed their magic number for clinching the American League East to four? If so, you also missed Red Sox catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia stealing home to give the Red Sox a 4-1 lead.
No, seriously, this happened, we have visual evidence of such an event occurring:
Okay, okay, so he had a little help getting there. First off, what are you doing Chris Stewart, let Xander Bogaerts take second, there's a runner on third base. Sure, you could have time to nab Bogaerts then get Salty at home, given the latter isn't necessarily a danger on the basepaths, but you could also have an inaccurate throw that your infielder has trouble collecting, leaving an opening for both runners to advance and for a run to score. You know, the exact thing that happened because you didn't just let Bogaerts take second on what was an obvious ploy to get you to throw down to the keystone.
Even better than the double steal was Salty's quote about it.
"I mean, Jackie Robinson, Ellsbury, I'm in a pretty elite category."
There is no point in my trying to top that line. I cede victory to Salty.
