Red Sox vs. Royals: David Ortiz returns, Jake Peavy gets second start

David Ortiz is back in the lineup Friday night as the Red Sox send Jake Peavy to the hill for his second start with the team.

After being completely shut down by Bruce Chen last night, the Red Sox will have David Ortiz back in the lineup Friday night as they look to rebound against Ervin Santana and the Royals.

  2. Shane Victorino, RF
  3. Dustin Pedroia, 2B
  4. David Ortiz, DH
  5. Daniel Nava, LF
  6. Mike Napoli, 1B
  7. Stephen Drew, SS
  8. Jarrod Saltalamacchia, C
  9. Brock Holt, 3B

Starting Pitcher -- Jake Peavy

Kansas City Royals (59-53)

  1. David Lough, RF
  2. Eric Hosmer, 1B
  3. Billy Butler, DH
  4. Alex Gordon, LF
  5. Justin Maxwell, CF
  6. Alcides Escobar, SS
  7. Mike Moustakas, 3B
  8. George Kottaras, C
  9. Elliot Johnson, 2B

Starting Pitcher -- Ervin Santana

It seems like it's been a long while since the Jake Peavy trade, but it's finally time for his second start with the team. He made a terrific first impression last time out, and if the Royals are perhaps hotter than the Diamondbacks right now, they've certainly not fielded an offense as impressive as Arizona's on the season.

Whether he's as good as before, better, or worse, he'll hopefully get more offense than Jon Lester did last night. Ervin Santana is having a fine year, but the real difference maker here will hopefully be David Ortiz, returning to the order after a day off.

Interestingly, Mike Napoli remains in sixth after being dropped in the order last night. Daniel Nava will take his place, and while the outfielder has been dealing with a bit of a power outage, he'll hopefully provide at least the contact ability the Red Sox are presumably looking for tonight.
