Red Sox vs. Diamondbacks: Jon Lester looks to keep rolling against Arizona

New, 19 comments

Jon Lester is on a roll, and will hopefully still be on one when the night comes to an end.

After a dramatic series sweep of the Mariners, the Red Sox will take on some tougher competition as the Arizona Diamondbacks make their way into Boston.

Boston Red Sox (66-44)

  1. Jacoby Ellsbury, CF
  2. Shane Victorino, RF
  3. Dustin Pedroia, 2B
  4. David Ortiz, DH
  5. Mike Napoli, 1B
  6. Daniel Nava, LF
  7. Jarrod Saltalamacchia, C
  8. Stephen Drew, SS
  9. Brock Holt, 3B

Starting Pitcher -- Jon Lester

Arizona Diamondbacks (55-53)

  1. A.J. Pollock, CF
  2. Aaron Hill, 2B
  3. Paul Goldschmidt, 1B
  4. Martin Prado, 3B
  5. Cody Ross, LF
  6. Jason Kubel, DH
  7. Wil Nieves, C
  8. Gerardo Parra, RF
  9. Didi Gregorius, SS

Starting Pitcher -- Randall Delgado

Given their numbers so far this season, Jon Lester vs. Randall Delgado certainly seems to favor the Diamondbacks. But the young Delgado has faced some pretty light competition, while Jon Lester seems to finally be bouncing back after a rough couple of months. He could fall right back into bad habits, but with four good starts in five, Lester may well have earned the benefit of the doubt back.

It doesn't hurt that, even in the National League, the Diamondbacks are a middle-of-the-road team offensively. Even taking into account that old Cody Ross is a different hitter in Fenway, this should represent a bit of a reprieve for Lester after facing the Rays and Orioles back-to-back.
