Red Sox minor lines: The (overly dramatic) harrowing of Trey Ball

Trey Ball's professional career has gotten off to a rocky start.

Gail Oskin

Pawtucket W 4-2

Box Score

Jackie Bradley Jr.: 1-4, 2B, 2 K
Xander Bogaerts: 1-3, BB
Jeremy Hazelbaker: 0-3, K, SB

Anthony Ranaudo: 5.2 IP, 9 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 3 K

Ranaudo dodged some bullets by way of double plays and someone being thrown out at home. On the whole, though, it's a positive outing after a negative one. Always good to get right back on that horse.

Portland L 0-2

Box Score

Deven Marrero: 0-4, SB
Garin Cecchini: 1-4
Travis Shaw: 0-3

Salem W 2-1

Box Score

Sean Coyle: 0-2, 2 BB
Henry Ramos: 1-2, 3B, BB
Keury De La Cruz: 0-3, 2 K
Mookie Betts: 1-4, 2B

Sean Coyle has just one hit in 13 at bats since his return to High-A. More encouraging: four walks to three strikeouts, especially given how bad that particular number was getting earlier in the year, before his injury.

Greenville L 2-3 (In 12)

Box Score

Kendrick Perkins: 2-3, BB

Justin Haley: 7 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 4 K
Austin Maddox: 2 IP, 1 H, 2 R, 0 ER, 1 BB

Far fewer strikeouts for Justin Haley than in his last two games, but the strong run of results continues. At 22-years-old, though, he's kind of begging for a more aggressive progression.

Lowell L 1-4

Box Score

Forrestt Allday: 1-4, K
Tzu-Wei Lin: 0-4
Williams Jerez: 1-4, K

Corey Littrell: 1 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 1 K

After allowing just one run in his first fourteen innings, six have crossed the plate with Littrell on the mound in his last couple of games, though at least this time they were unearned.

GCL Red Sox L 3-5

Box Score

Jon Denney: 1-3, BB, 2 K

Trey Ball: 0.2 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 3 BB

It's not time to worry about Trey Ball until this sort of thing is happening in 2014. But man, it's always disappointing looking at his name and seeing nothing good next to it.
