Red Sox minor lines: Xander Bogaerts is pretty great

Xander Bogaerts says the right things, and swings the bat pretty well too.

USA TODAY Sports

Pawtucket W 6-5

Box Score

Jackie Bradley Jr.: 0-2, BB
Xander Bogaerts: 2-4, HR
David Ross: 0-2, BB
Jeremy Hazelbaker: 1-3, BB, SB

Clayton Mortensen: 6 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 3 K

Guys, Xander Bogaerts is just too perfect. For instance, this quote from Tim Britton:

"Yesterday, I got the two bloopers, but I went home and didn't feel that good because of the process. Result-wise, it was good with two hits, but I really wanted a line drive," said Bogaerts. "After the first one today, I knew something was good. I just wanted to barrel up one to make me feel better. I did."

And he's 20! 20 years old in Triple-A talking about how his hits from yesterday weren't what he wanted because he knows, often as not, luck doesn't come down on your side for those kinds of hits. And then he goes and does this hitting into (against) huge wind:

Yeah, he's looking pretty great.

Portland L 5-6 (In 12)

Box Score

Deven Marrero: 3-4, K, E
Garin Cecchini: 1-6, 3 K
Michael Almanzar: 1-6, 2 K
Christian Vazquez: 2-6, CS
Travis Shaw: 2-6, 3B, 2 K

So apparently all Deven Marrero needed was a bump up in difficulty to start hitting? That or a BABIP north of .700. Still, better signs than an 0-for to start, I'd say.

Salem W 5-4 (In 10)

Box Score

Henry Ramos: 1-4, BB, K
Sean Coyle: 0-4, BB, K
Keury De La Cruz: 1-5
Mookie Betts: 2-5

Mike Augliera: 6.1 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 4 K

Augliera is interspersing good peripheral games with no-strikeout games of late, which is a step up from his old habits of not bothering with the good peripheral games except every once in a blue moon. On the whole, it adds up to a 3:1 K:BB in his last five outings, and that's not half bad at all.

Greenville L 1-14

Box Score

Kendrick Perkins: 1-3, 2 K
Jose Vinicio: 0-3, 2 K

Cody Kukuk: 2.1 IP, 4 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 6 BB, 1 K

This is far from the worst starting pitching performance the farm system has seen this year. But man if it doesn't feel like it.

Lowell W 8-1

Box Score

Forrestt Allday: 1-3, 2B, 2 BB, 2 K
Tzu-Wei Lin: 2-4, BB, E

Teddy Stankiewicz: 2 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 0 K

Thanks to a 2-for-16 slump with just one walk, Forrestt Allday's OBP is no longer in the stratospheres. Perhaps this marks the beginning of a return to the high-400s?

GCL Red Sox L 0-5

Nick Longhi: 0-3
