Jose Iglesias' crazy play for Detroit

Old friend Jose Iglesias made one of the best plays of the year for his new team.

Ken Blaze-USA TODAY Sports

Jose Iglesias may be gone from Boston, but he's certainly not forgotten*. So when he goes and does something really, truly crazy for the Tigers, it seems worth mentioning.

The situation: the Tigers trail the White Sox 4-2 in the bottom of the sixth. Doug Fister just allowed a one out single, bringing Josh Phegley to the plate. Phegley swings on an 0-2 pitch, resulting in a looping flare just past Fister on the mound. Iglesias charges and, well, let's go to the tape:

Woah...

The Red Sox knew what they were giving up when they sent Iglesias to Detroit. It wasn't a .300 hitting shortstop. It was that. A glove--or in this case a bare hand--that's going to dominate highlight reels for as long as he's hitting enough to see the field. And, obviously given what happened in that video, enough doesn't have to be much.
