Red Sox minor lines: Will Middlebrooks leads system-wide explosion

Will Middlebrooks exploded, and the rest of the system followed suit.

Joy R. Absalon-USA TODAY Sports

Pawtucket W 11-5

Box Score

Jackie Bradley Jr.: 2-4, 2B, HR, BB, K
Will Middlebrooks: 4-5, 2B, 2 HR
Bryce Brentz: 0-5, K
Xander Bogaerts: 1-4, BB
Brock Holt: 1-4, SB

Alfredo Aceves: 5 IP, 8 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 2 BB, 2 K, 2 HR

So...that happened.

Will Middlebrooks is now hitting .319/.396/.723 in 12 games with Pawtucket. John Farrell and Ben Cherington made it clear that it wasn't just about putting up flashy numbers, but at some point there's not much else you can do. The Red Sox still don't have a place for him if Drew is going to be back on Saturday, though. It's almost a shame Drew spent this past week hurt instead of this one.

Oh, and Jackie Bradley Jr. is slugging .552. What the huh?

Portland W 7-0

Box Score

Christian Vazquez: 1-4, 2B
Garin Cecchini: 3-4, 2B, HR
Michael Almanzar: 1-3, BB, K
Travis Shaw: 0-4, K
Kolbrin Vitek: 1-4

Drake Britton: 7 IP, 7 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 3 BB, 4 K

Garin Cecchini's Double-A numbers are now better than his High-A numbers. I believe that we can draw this lineout to the MLB and come up with him trailing only Cabrera and Davis. That's totally how this works, right?

Salem W 14-6

Box Score

Henry Ramos: 2-4, BB
Deven Marrero: 2-6, K
Keury De La Cruz: 2-6, HR
Brandon Jacobs: 2-4, 2B, 2 BB, 2 K
Cody Koback: 2-4, K, E

Two hits for everybody! You get two hits! You get two hits! Shaq Thompson gets two hits!

(But almost certainly not that last bit)

Greenville L 2-4

Box Score

Mookie Betts: 2-4, SB
Jose Vinicio: 1-3, 2 K

Cody Kukuk: 5 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 7 K

Well, OK, not every level of the system joined the fun. But at least we got a surprisingly good K:BB day for a guy who was sitting almost dead even at 53:52 coming into this game.

Lowell W 10-3

Box Score

Tzu-Wei Lin: 1-4, BB, K, E
Manuel Margot: 2-4, 2B, BB, K
Kendrick Perkins: 2-5, K, SB

Jamie Callahan: 4.2 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 3 K, 1 HR

That's Tzu-Wei Lin's seventh walk in under 60 PA. He's struck out just five times.
