Red Sox minor lines: Matt Barnes roughed up

New, comments

Matt Barnes was knocked around in Portland, taking an unimpressive season and turning it downright concerning.

Pawtucket W 10-3

Box Score

Jeremy Hazelbaker: 1-5
Ryan Lavarnway: 0-3, BB
Brock Holt: 2-5

Rubby De La Rosa: 4.2 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 7 K, 2 HR

Not Rubby's best outing (also by no means a bad one), but it's important to remember that 4.2 innings is the longest he's gone this year, not an unusually short performance because he was inefficient.

Portland L 6-13

Box Score

Xander Bogaerts: 2-4
Michael Almanzar: 0-4, K
Travis Shaw: 1-3, BB
Christian Vazquez: 1-4, 2B, K

Matt Barnes: 1.2 IP, 6 H, 7 R, 7 ER, 0 BB, 2 K, 3 HR
Keith Couch: 3.1 IP, 8 H, 5 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 4 K, 1 HR

Seven runs in under two innings is going to do a number on anybody's ERA, but Barnes' was already at 4.50 entering this game. Double-A is a rough transition to make for many pitchers, yes, and Barnes' peripherals are solid, but it's certainly not going as well as could be hoped.

Salem W 3-2

Box Score

Garin Cecchini: 0-1, 3 BB
Keury De La Cruz: 0-4, K
Brandon Jacobs: 1-2, 2B, 2 BB
Henry Ramos: 0-4, K

Apaprently, in true CFL style, the Salem Sox agreed that Garin Cecchini would not go up for his at bats if the pitcher would throw blindfolded. Not sure how he managed to put the ball in play for that one out, but hey, he's Garin Cecchini.
