Red Sox minor lines: Rubby De La Rosa makes his case

Recovery from Tommy John Surgery has kept Rubby De La Rosa from making any spot starts. But with his pitch counts mounting, is it time to give the impressive prospect his shot?

J. Meric

Pawtucket W 3-0

Box Score

Jackie Bradley Jr.: 1-4, 3B
Will Middlebrooks: 1-4
Bryce Brentz: 0-3, BB
Xander Bogaerts: 0-4, K

Rubby De La Rosa: 5.2 IP, 6 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 6 K

Allen Webster will start tonight, but if he doesn't keep runs off the board Rubby De La Rosa is certainly pushing for a chance. His pitch count is up over 90, and it looks like the Sox are trying to keep it there, getting him ready to make the big jump back up.

Portland L 4-5

Box Score

Garin Cecchini: 2-5, 2 K
Michael Almanzar: 1-5, 2B
Travis Shaw: 1-3, HR, 2 BB
Christian Vazquez: 2-4

Drake Britton: 6 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 4 K, 1 HR

Shaw is hitting .316/.395/.526 in his last ten games. Just a hot streak, or has he finally started to figure out Double-A?

Salem L 5-12

Box Score

Henry Ramos: 1-5, K
Keury De La Cruz: 2-4
Brandon Jacobs: 0-3, BB, K
Blake Swihart: 1-3, BB, K
Cody Koback: 2-4
David Renfroe: 0-3, BB

Ramos' surge has sputtered out with a 2-for-21 slump. Keury De La Cruz, however, is still hitting...well, kind of. He's got 13 hits in his last 10 games, good for a .302 average. The problem is with just one walk and two doubles mixed in, his OPS over that period is a disappointing .667.

Greenville W 9-5

Box Score

Mookie Betts: 0-5, BB, 3 K
Jose Vinicio: 3-6, 2B, 2 K, SB

Cody Kukuk: 1.1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 1 K, 1 HR
Austin Maddox: 3.2 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 5 K

A Greenville game where someone performs and it's not Mookie Betts? Blasphemy!

Lowell L 4-9

Box Score

Tzu-Wei Lin: 2-5, 2B, 3B
Maneul Margot: 1-4, K
Kendrick Perkins: 0-4
Williams Jerez: 0-3, E

Jamie Callahan: 2 IP, 6 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 3 BB, 0 K, 1 HR

Tzu-Wei Lin came off as a bit forgettable thanks to a mediocre rookie campaign in the GCL. He's off to a hot start in Lowell, however and, lest we forget, was born in 1994.

1994!

The book is as open on him as it is for any prospect this side of his teammate Manuel Margot.
