Red Sox minor lines: Will Middlebrooks heads back down

It's one big step back for Will Middlebrooks. Hopefully it leads to a quick step forward.

USA TODAY Sports

Pawtucket W 5-4

Box Score

Jackie Bradley Jr.: 2-4, 2 2B
Will Middlebrooks: 1-4
Bryce Brentz: 0-3, BB, 3 K
Xander Bogaerts: 1-4, SB
Jeremy Hazelbaker: 1-4

And so the second Will Middlebrooks era begins for Pawtucket. We can only hope he finds himself again back in the minors.

Salem W 12-3

Box Score

Deven Marrero: 2-4, 2B, BB, SB
Keury De La Cruz: 2-5, 2B
Brandon Jacobs: 0-3, 2 BB, K
Cody Koback: 1-3, 2B, 2 BB

Noe Ramirez: 1.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 2 K

Deven Marrero is filling up the box scores these days, with 12 hits in his last six games. He doesn't have a long way to go before his numbers look decent, but he does have a ways to go before he starts to look like what you'd hope for in a first-round pick.

Greenville W 7-5

Box Score

Mookie Betts: 4-4, 2B, BB, SB
Jose Vinicio: 3-4, 2 2B, SB

Francellis Montas: 5 IP, 6 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, 5 K, 1 HR

Jose Vinicio is on a five-game hitting streak, and has more than 20% of his hits on the season in that time period. A testament to just how bad it's been for him this year.

Lowell L 4-9

Box Score

Tzu-Wei Lin: 2-4, 2B, BB
Manuel Margot: 1-4, K, SB, CS, E
Kendrick Perkins: 2-4, 2B, BB, 2 K

After looking overmatched in Greenville, Perkins looks completely unchallenged so far in Lowell.
