The Red Sox have made it official, placing Franklin Morales on the 15-day disabled list and calling Pedro Beato up from Pawtucket.
#RedSox Recall RHP Pedro Beato and Place LHP Franklin Morales Placed on 15-Day Disabled List.
— Boston Red Sox (@RedSox) June 25, 2013
This is not terribly surprising, obviously. We've expected Morales to go on the disabled list ever since he last pitched on the 22nd. It's also not terribly surprising in that Morales seems to be injured as often as not these days, and that the Red Sox are always having to make to with shaky fill-ins in either the rotation or bullpen.
Beato, however, is not likely to last long. Clayton Mortensen is set to come off the disabled list before tomorrow's game, so this should be only the briefest cup of coffee for Beato. That's not to say Mortensen is a huge improvement--he holds a 5.34 ERA in 30 innings of work this year, his results having come rushing down to meet his peripherals from last year.
