Red Sox minor lines: Xander Bogaerts struggles, Brandon Workman does not

Xander may have finally found a level that provides a challenge, but Brandon Workman hasn't.

Chung Sung-Jun

Pawtucket W 3-0

Box Score

Jackie Bradley Jr.: 0-3, BB, K
Xander Bogaerts: 0-3, BB, 3 K
Jeremy Hazelbaker: 1-4

Brandon Workman: 7 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 5 K
Clayton Mortensen: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 1 K

Could it be? Has Xander Bogaerts finally reached a level that actually tests him even slightly before he completely dominates it? Make no mistake, seven rough games aren't reason for any real concern, it's just that Bogaerts has kind of made promotions look too easy throughout his short career.

Brandon Workman, on the other hand, is getting upset over Boston's apparent decision to send him to this new Single-A team in Pawtucket. He thought he had done well enough in Portland to face a tougher challenge, but apparently not.

Portland W 5-2

Box Score

Michael Almanzar: 1-3, BB, K, SB
Travis Shaw: 0-4, K
Christian Vazquez: 2-3, HR, BB, K

Keith Couch: 6 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 4 BB, 4 K

Has it been a brilliant year for Christian Vazquez? Certainly not. But even with a BABIP of about .250 dragging him down, he's shown solid improvement over his awful post-promotion performance in 2012. If he can keep showing this level of discipline at the plate, he really should bring enough to the plate with his glove to find a career in the majors, be it as a stopgap/backup for Boston, or as a starter elsewhere.

Greenville L 1-14

Box Score

Mookie Betts: 0-4, K
Jose Vinicio: 0-4, K

Yunior Ortega: 3 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 0 BB, 3 K
Austin Maddox: 1 IP, 1 H, 2 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 1 K

Hahahahahahahahahahahahaha

Lowell L 5-8 (In 11)

Box Score

Forrestt Allday: 2-3
Williams Jerez: 0-3, K, E
Manuel Margot: 1-5, 2 K
Kendrick Perkins: 0-4, BB, K

Given that Lowell led by five headed to the eighth...well, let's say the closing problems extended throughout the system.
