Only two games yesterday because Pawtucket and, of course, Salem were both rained out. The latter in a double-header precipitated by a rain-delayed doubleheader precipitated by a previous rain delay. Yup. It's wet down there.
Anyways, what the system lacked in quantity yesterday, it more than made up for in ridiculous starts from Anthony Ranaudo. Because wow.
Portland W 2-0
Michael Almanzar: 3-3, 2B, E
Travis Shaw: 0-3, K
Kolbrin, Vitek: 0-3, 2 K
Christian Vazquez: 0-3
Anthony Ranaudo: 7.2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 13 K
Only guy who's ever done something like that for the Sea Dogs before? Someone named Jon Lester. And, frankly, it could even have been better. Before the seventh started, Ranaudo's pitch count left a complete game within reason. A single and error from Almanzar in the seventh might well be all that ended up keeping him from it.
Worth noting that Ranaudo just gave up seven runs in under five innings in his previous outing. Think he maybe wanted to prove that he's for real this year?
Greenville L 4-9
Mookie Betts: 0-4, K
Cody Koback: 0-3
And then there's Greenville. That's already a tough act to follow by Ranaudo, but for Greenville? Completely impossible.
