Red Sox vs. Rays lineups: Jose Iglesias misses out again

Jose Iglesias is the odd man out for the second time in three nights as the Sox go for a series win in Tampa.

For the second time in three days, Jose Iglesias will be the one to miss out on starting duty as the Red Sox go for a series win against the Rays.

Boston Red Sox (40-26)

  1. Jacoby Ellsbury, CF
  2. Daniel Nava, RF
  3. Dustin Pedroia, 2B
  4. David Ortiz, DH
  5. Mike Napoli, 1B
  6. Mike Carp, LF
  7. Jarrod Saltalamacchia, C
  8. Will Middlebrooks, 3B
  9. Stephen Drew, SS

Starting Pitcher -- Alfredo Aceves

Tampa Bay Rays (35-29)

  1. Matt Joyce, RF
  2. Ben Zobrist, 2B
  3. Kelly Johnson, LF
  4. Evan Longoria, 3B
  5. James Loney, 1B
  6. Desmond Jennings, CF
  7. Luke Scott, DH
  8. Jose Lobaton, C
  9. Yunel Escobar, SS

Starting Pitcher -- Chris Archer

While a straight rotation of the Jose Iglesias, Will Middlebrooks, and Stephen Drew would leave Drew the odd man out today, it seems John Farrell is reinforcing the idea that Iglesias is, first and foremost, the utility man. At least he'll be available off the bench if the situation calls for it.

Shane Victorino is also out, likely just for a standard day off. Then again, with the way his season has gone so far, we should all be concerned he will find a wall to crash into in the clubhouse. Or even in the streets of Boston. Please, can we keep him away from walls? Find him a nice open field somewhere?

Yes, Alfredo Aceves is pitching again. No, we shouldn't talk about it. Let's'll be over soon. One way or another. And then it will be back again. Because baseball is a cruel, cyclical game.
