Before anyone gets ahead of themselves, this is not some sudden shift in policy from Farrell and the Red Sox. Will Middlebrooks is just getting the day after his return from the DL off, which seems to be standard operating procedure for anyone who ends up missing time. While Iglesias does project to get some starting time at third base in the weeks to come, this is hardly a benching for Middlebrooks.
The real story tonight for the Red Sox, though, will be Jon Lester. Boston's premier southpaw has had very little in the way of success over his last few games. Now, with the Red Sox in need of some serious innings after last night's fourteen-frame debacle, he needs to shake off those troubles and give his bullpen some rest.
If he doesn't, it's Jose De La Torre all the way. No offense to De La Torre, who has been solid for the Paw Sox this year, but that's not a scenario we want to see.
