Will Middlebrooks day-to-day after clean CT scan, David Ross game ready

John Farrell told WEEI earlier today that Will Middlebrooks' CT scan showed no fractured ribs, leaving the third baseman in an encouraging day-to-day situation.

Middlebrooks suffered his rib injury in Tuesday night's loss to the Twins when catcher David Ross slid into him knees-first as both players tried to make a play on the same pop-up. Both men would leave the game shortly thereafter, with Middlebrooks quickly receiving X-rays before today's round of scans.

As for Ross, Farrell says he's feeling much better, and could even play today if necessary, though neither man will be in the lineup for tonight's game.

Of course, Red Sox fans have heard good news like this before, only for it to go terribly wrong. Jacoby Ellsbury was injured in a similar incident back in 2010, and while initially his scans did not seem too bad, another round taken when pain persisted revealed a previously undetected fracture. Red Sox fans will just have to hope that's not the case this time around.
