Red Sox minor lines: Matt Barnes joins the party

After struggling to start the year, Matt Barnes finally had a breakout game against Reading.

Bob DeChiara-USA TODAY Sports

Portland W 2-1

Box Score

Xander Bogaerts: 1-4, BB, K
Travis Shaw: 0-4, K
Michael Almanzar: 1-2, BB
Kolbrin Vitek: 2-4

Matt Barnes: 6 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 10 K, 1 HR

In a year where Allen Webster, Anthony Ranaudo, Brandon Workman, Henry Owens, have all been pitching very well (Rubby, who just got started yesterday, has the injury excuse), Matt Barnes--arguably the most impressive of the lot before the year started--has struggled to get going. Well, hopefully this is Barnes announcing his arrival. Loudly and impressively with all those strikeouts.

Salem L 2-3

Box Score

Sean Coyle: 1-4, 2B, K, POCS
Garin Cecchini: 2-4, 2B
Keury De La Cruz: 0-4, K
David Renfroe: 1-4
Blake Swihart: 0-4, K
Henry Ramos: 1-4

This is Garin Cecchini on a bad day.

Greenville L 2-3 (In 10)

Box Score

Cody Koback: 3-3, BB, A
Jose Vinicio: 1-3, BB, CS

Cody Kukuk: 5 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 5 K

Cody Kukuk joins Barnes in his good day. He needed something to earn him some separation in his walks and strikeouts, and he got just that against the Rome Braves.
