Pawtucket W 7-2
Jeremy Hazelbaker: 1-4, HR, BB, K, E
Bryce Brentz: 1-4
Juan Carlos Linares: 2-3, BB
Chris Hernandez: 4 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 4 BB, 3 K
Hazelbaker has been creeping closer and closer to the 20 dinger mark over the course of his minor league career. Already with two to his name, 2013 might be the year he gets the job done.
Unfortunately, with the Red Sox' rotation depth a point of concern, Chris Hernandez has a none-too-encouraging outing. He's not the sort of guy who can walk a bunch of batters and expect to get away with it.
Salem L 2-3
Sean Coyle: 2-3, HR, BB, SB
Deven Marrero: 2-4
Keury De La Cruz: 0-4, 2 K
Brandon Jacobs: 1-4, 2B, K
Garin Cecchini: 0-3, BB
David Renfroe: 0-4, K
Henry Ramos: 0-4, K
Henry Owens: 5 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 4 K
Noe Ramirez: 3 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 2 K
Sean Coyle saw his power numbers drop significantly last year. Now, in his second run at Salem, he's off to a pretty perfect start. As with any player repeating a level, however, he's going to have to overcome a fair level of skepticism to make his way back into the good graces of prospect watchers.
Meanwhile, there's Henry Owens, whose 4.87 ERA in Greenville was not at all enough to scare fans away from his high upside and 130 strikeouts in 102 innings of work. This year he'll be hoping to pull that ERA down, but even if he can't get it down to the levels that top prospects often sit at, he'll still have a lot of people dreaming big.
Greenville L 6-2
Jose Vinicio: 2-4, 2B, K
Cody Koback: 0-4, 2 K
Kendrick Perkins: 1-4, 2 K
Pat Light: 2 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 3 K
Madison Younginer: 4 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 3 BB, 7 K
Not the greatest night for Pat Light, but wow is that ever a lot of strikeouts for Madison Younginer. This is kind of the last chance for the 22-year-old, and given that his problem has always been consistency and control, those walks aren't exactly what you want to see. Still, it's a strong start
