Red Sox minor lines: Anthony Ranaudo is back

It's only been four starts, but it's hard to question that this is a different Anthony Ranaudo we're seeing in 2013.

This isn't Anthony Ranaudo, but he pitched too.

Pawtucket W 6-5

Box Score

Jackie Bradley Jr.: 0-4, BB, 3 K
Bryce Brentz: 0-4, BB, K
Jose Iglesias: 0-4, 2 K
Brock Holt: 1-3, BB

Allen Webster: 4 IP, 3 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 3 BB, 5 K
Craig Breslow: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 1 K

Ah, the post-debut letdown claims another victim in Allen Webster. It's a bad game, but not terribly concerning. We saw what he can do at a major league level. He'll be fine. As will Craig Breslow, who noticeably recorded outs this time.

Portland W 6-0

Box Score

Travis Shaw: 1-5, 2B, K
Michael Almanzar: 1-5, 2 K
Kolbrin Vitek: 1-4, 2 K

Anthony Ranaudo: 6 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 9 K

Is it time to declare Anthony Ranaudo back? I'm not so sure, but only because I'm not so sure he was anywhere near this before. The 23-year-old has thrown 21 innings, allowing just 16 baserunners and two earned runs while striking out 26. There are few hotter pitchers in the minors, and Ranaudo comes with the benefit of having had this expected of him in years past. He's not simply come out of nowhere so much as finally woken up. The only question now is if he can stay healthy.

Salem W 7-2

Box Score

Sean Coyle: 2-4, HR, BB, SB
Garin Cecchini: 2-3, 2 3B, BB, SB, E
Brandon Jacobs: 0-4, 2 K
Keury De La Cruz: 2-4, 2B, SB
David Renfroe: 0-4
Blake Swihart: 2-4, 2B
Henry Ramos: 2-4, K

Noe Ramirez: 2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 K

The consistency from Coyle and Cecchini is bordering on ridiculous. This is Cecchini's fifth straight two-hit game, each time picking up at least one extra-base hit. He's also picked up 11 walks in his last 10 games to boot. Coyle, on the other hand, is on a six-game hitting streak with homers in three of his last four. Maybe there's something in the water down in Salem? If so, we should get some of that water up to Boston in a hurry.

Greenville W 5-4

Box Score

Jose Vinicio: 0-3, K

Brian Johnson: 4 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 4 K
Madison Younginer: 1.1 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 2 K

Two walks is a lot better than his previous five for Brian Johnson, even if you would prefer to see just one or, better yet, none at all in a short outing like that.
