Starting Pitcher -- Erik Bedard

The Red Sox are going all-in on right-handed hitters as they take on the southpaw. Bedard is one of the few players who did some good for the Red Sox down the stretch in 2011, but since then things haven't gone so well. A rough 2012 saw him struggle against right-handed hitters, and so far in 2013 he's basically been a starting-length LOOGY (except with just 11 innings in three starts), so it's not hard to understand Farrell's lineup choices here, particularly with Shane Victorino still resting his back.

On the mound for the Red Sox will be Ryan Dempster, who has so far struck out 33 batters in 24 innings. That is to say that this might be a pretty good matchup for him. The Red Sox have somehow managed to lose three of his four games so far despite a nice 3.38 ERA; hopefully Erik Bedard and the Astros act as the perfect cure.
