Red Sox - Rays Rained Out

New, comments

The Red Sox have postponed Friday night's game against the Tampa Bay Rays.

[UPDATE]: According to Nick Cafardo, the upshot of this day off is that Doubront has been effectively skipped in the rotation. Jon Lester, Clay Buchholz, and Ryan Dempster will pitch the next three games as planned, with Felix going Tuesday against the Indians.

The Red Sox have announced that Friday night's game against the Tampa Bay Rays has been postponed due to inclement weather.

While the Boston area has been soaked for much of the last few days, leading to a rain delay in Wednesday's game, tonight is the first time it's expected to come and stay for most of the night. Add in very low temperatures, and it's easy to see why the team decided to simply call the game, rather than trying to squeeze even five innings in.

Frankly, it's a day the Red Sox could use. After a couple bad losses, the team could use a bit of a mental break, and it won't hurt to have their bullpen fully rested after the two starters provided just 10 total innings. Koji Uehara and Junichi Tazawa, at the very least, would likely have both been out of action--a tough scenario given Felix Doubront's tendency for short outings.

The Red Sox have announced a make-up date of June 15, as part of a day/night doubleheader.
