Red Sox Bats Quiet As Twins Rebound With 2-0 Win

The Red Sox' bats went quiet Friday night, unable to back up a strong run of pitching as they fell to the Twins, 2-0.

While Ryan Dempster ended up tagged for two runs and was not quite as dominant in hi 3.2 innings of work as he was last time out, the veteran righty really did look strong on the mound. A few tough calls from the umpire and tough breaks on balls in play let the Twins turn a couple solid hits into two runs in total, but generally this is a Dempster we Sox fans should be happy seeing every fifth game.

This offense, though, not so much. Perhaps it was just the effect of a rare night game with players used to 1:05 matinees, but the Boston bats seemed out of sync. They swung at bad pitches, made weak contact, and generally played right into the hands of Mike Pelfrey and co.

Alex Wilson, Anthony Carter, and Chris Hernandez combined to hold the fort for the rest of the game--good news in particular for Wilson, who has an outside chance at making the bulpen out of spring trainng, and Hernandez, who could be in line for a spot start or two given the right circumstances. The Red Sox, however, did not see any improvements from their bats, and ended the game held to a mere five hits with no runs to show for it.
