Thursday Red Sox Lineup: Intestinal Turmoil Fun

The Red Sox will be without Will Middlebrooks Thursday as they take on the Twins. The third baseman becomes the most recent victim of the "intestinal turmoil" running through the clubhouse.

USA TODAY Sports

"Intestinal turmoil" is the phrase of the week in Red Sox camp. After striking down Jacoby Ellsbury yesterday, the plague has reached its next victim in Will Middlebrooks today, keeping the third baseman out of an otherwise pretty full Red Sox lineup.

Boston Red Sox

  1. Jacoby Ellsbury, CF
  2. Dustin Pedroia, 2B
  3. Stephen Drew, SS
  4. Mike Napoli, 1B
  5. Ryan Lavarnway, DH
  6. Jarrod Saltalamacchia, C
  7. Daniel Nava, LF
  8. Ryan Sweeney, RF
  9. Drew Sutton, 3B

Starting Pitcher -- Clay Buchholz

One man who is no stranger to "intestinal turmoil" -- one of a more severe variety in fact -- is the Sox' starter on the day: Clay Buchholz. Buchholz is making just his second start of the year after some early injury trouble. He was a little shaky in his first outing, but managed to tough it out and keep runs off the board. Hopefully he'll settle down and have an easier time of things today.

If he does, the Red Sox should have a good chance to take a 2-0 lead in the all-important Mayor's Cup. World Series? Who cares? They're going to be the champions of Fort Myers!
