Sunday Red Sox Lineup: Sox Break Out Big Guns Against Yankees

The Red Sox are fielding a strong lineup Sunday afternoon for their first game of the year against the New York Yankees.

J. Meric

It's the first Red Sox - Yankees game of the year! Except it isn't because the Rays have a fiercer rivalry with these guys in the spring than Boston does.

Still, the names are on the scoreboard, the logos on the uniforms, and I'm sure the deep-seated loathing is in our hearts. So let's be thankful that the Red Sox are basically fielding a major league lineup for this one. Plus Jackie Bradley, who so far this spring is the biggest gun of them all.

Boston Red Sox

  1. Jacoby Ellsbury, CF
  2. Dustin Pedroia, 2B
  3. Stephen Drew, SS
  4. Mike Napoli, 1B
  5. Daniel Nava, LF
  6. Will Middlebrooks, 3B
  7. Jarrod Saltalamacchia, DH
  8. David Ross, C
  9. Jackie Bradley, RF

Starting Pitcher -- Ryan Dempster

It is, of course, all a bit clunky. Stephen Drew batting third, Salty and Ross in the same lineup. But you make do with the resources you have available at a time like this, and we as fans can't ask for much more than a whole list of instantly recognizable names.

NESN and WEEI will both be showing the game starting at 1:35 p.m., which means we'll have a game thread for those interested.
