Monday Red Sox lineup: Starting pitchers don't like to travel

The Red Sox will have a few starters make the trip to Sarasota to take on the Baltimore Orioles.

Major league players are, generally, not fans of travelling during spring training. There are buses involved, the games are meaningless, and if it's just about getting work in, there's not that much difference between facing another major league team's spring training squad and a random minor league bunch.

Still, some players will be willing to make that trip. That's the case for Shane Victorino, Jonny Gomes, Mike Napoli, and Will Middlebrooks, all of whom are out in Sarasota to take on the Orioles today. Starting pitchers, however, seem to be another story entirely.

Boston Red Sox

  1. Shane Victorino, CF
  2. Jonny Gomes, LF
  3. Mike Napoli, DH
  4. Will Middlebrooks, 3B
  5. Lyle Overbay, 1B
  6. Ryan Sweeney, RF
  7. Jose Iglesias, SS
  8. Brock Holt, 2B
  9. Christian Vazquez, C

Starting Pitcher -- Graham Godfrey

What, exactly, is a Graham Godfrey you might ask? I'll let Marc (from three months go) explain that.

As for the rest of this lineup, well, Jose Iglesias is hitting seventh. Not a lot more needs to be said and, really, not much more can be said. After all, this is basically just paint-by-numbers. Starters go at the top and play where they need to, the rest can be filled in after.

Hopefully someone will try and steal a base, so Christian Vazquez can gun them down by a mile. But otherwise this is very much a last week of spring training game. Get them in, move on, and tick another day off as we wait for April 1st.
