Clay Buchholz will take the mound Saturday afternoon, pitching in front of a full lineup as the Red Sox welcome the Pittsburgh Pirates into Jet Blue Park.
With left-handed starter John Locke on the mound for the Pirates, John Farrell will trot out what is a mostly typical lineup against southpaws:
- Jacoby Ellsbury, CF
- Shane Victorino, RF
- Dustin Pedroia, 2B
- Mike Napoli, 1B
- Will Middlebrooks, 3B
- Jarrod Saltalamacchia, DH
- Jonny Gomes, LF
- David Ross, C
- Jose Iglesias, SS
The obvious question mark here is Jarrod Satalamacchia. Using up the DH spot for his second catcher when said catcher can't actually hit lefties probably won't be a regular trick of Farrell's come April and onward. For now, though, he perhaps needs at bats for Salty, and spring training being what it is, will not run up against a substitution crisis in case of an emergency.
The rest, however, seems par for the course.
The game will be broadcast on NESN, so we'll have a game thread for those interested.
