2013 World Series odds: Red Sox the slight favorites to defeat the Cardinals

The Boston Red Sox are favorites to take the World Series over the St. Louis Cardinals according to the most recent Las Vegas odds.

The Red Sox are the slight favorites to win the 2013 World Series according to the most recent odds from Bovada.

The opening odds have the Red Sox coming in as 5/7 favorites to down the Cardinals, who sit at 6/5 underdogs. If that sounds familiar to you it's because the Red Sox came in as favorites before the postseason got underway--minus the Wild Card games--at 15/4. The Cardinals, for what it's worth, came in fourth at 11/2, behind both the Detroit Tigers (19:4) and Los Angeles Dodgers (9/2).

Well, the Dodgers and Tigers each put up a good fight, but now it's come down to the final two, and there Boston's advantage apparently holds up.

Where the Red Sox aren't leading is, apparently, the early betting. Perhaps it's because of the strikeout spree the Detroit Tigers went on, but the early money is favoring the St. Louis Cardinals. That's been true since the playoffs began, in fact, but it's worth noting that the early betting favorites were none other than the Tampa Bay Rays, and we all know how that went.

There are plenty more weird, fun odds to peruse. David Ortiz and Dustin Pedroia, for instance, are favorites for World Series MVP, with Carlos Beltran and Matt Holliday topping the list for the Cardinals. Interestingly Jacoby Ellsbury is way down at seventh (12/1) while ALCS MVP Koji Uehara can only manage 15/1 odds. Even Xander Bogaerts makes the list at 16/1, higher than both Shane Victorino and Stephen Drew. The most likely result for the series? Boston in seven.

My personal favorite, though?
