With the trade deadline in the rearview mirror, the actual baseball part of baseball can take center stage once again as Josh Beckett and Justin Verlander square off.
Oh, actually, can we go back to the deadline stuff, 'cause that doesn't sound so great.
The last time the Sox took on Verlander, it wasn't the best night for the Detroit ace, with Daniel Nava picking up that big bases-loaded hit in part of a 6-3 win. Nava is not in the lineup tonight, however, and Justin Verlander has had a good few months to walk that one off.
The real interesting twist for tonight is that, once again, both Jarrod Saltalamacchia and Kelly Shoppach will make their way into the lineup, with Shoppach playing behind the plate and Salty taking on the role of designated hitter. The Sox are playing with fire a bit there, but it keeps Salty from behind the plate while fitting his bat into the lineup.
