It's not a surprise to see Will Middlebrooks sitting as the Red Sox take on the Marlins in Miami, but that doesn't make me dislike the lack of a designated hitter in the National League any less. David Ortiz gets the start at first base, with Adrian Gonzalez shifting to right, and it's Kevin Youkilis playing at the hot corner with Josh Beckett on the mound.
It might be interesting to note that Adrian Gonzalez is already back in the third spot in the lineup, and Kevin Youkilis has been pushed lower in the order. Nothing short of not playing will keep Dustin Pedroia out of the two-hole, but you'd like to see him start hitting better with that thumb injury -- in the last month, Pedroia is at just .237/.274/.309, and, by his own admission, his thumb has been ailing for most of that stretch.
The Marlins are giving Omar Infante the evening off, playing Donovan Solano in his stead at the keystone. Other than that, this looks like your standard-issue Marlins' lineup.
