Managers are one of the most inscrutable things in baseball. How do you define success or failure for a major league manager? Wins and loses? Maybe, but if we're being honest, that's a terrible measurement as it's, if anything, a far better reflection on the quality of the manager's roster than on the job the manager did. This is interesting because the Red Sox in essence hired Blue Jays manager John Farrell to become the new manager in Boston. Farrell's record in Toronto was a mediocre one but the Red Sox front office thought he was the man to return the team to their former glory. Why? Dustin Parkes of The Score's Getting Blanked Blog joins Matthew Kory to discuss Farrell's strengths and weaknesses as a manager, the role of a manager in baseball, and our understanding and inability to correctly analyze that role.
