Heyman: Red Sox, Six Others Interested In Shane Victorino

While the market has been quiet on him to this point, with the winter meetings approaching, teams are beginning to turn their interest towards outfielder Shane Victorino. Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports that seven teams, including the Red Sox, are intrigued by Victorino. The other six are the Reds, Indians, Yankees, Rangers, Giants, and Rays.

Heyman also says that Victorino could get "several teams" to go three years on him, though the outfielder was looking for five not that long ago. Given he had a down year offensively in 2012, though, and will be 32 years old, there's little to no chance he gets what he's looking for this winter. Because of that, there's reason to believe Victorino is more willing to sign for the minimum amount of time in order to build his value back up. That's the kind of deal the Red Sox should be looking at Victorino for, as a one-year option to fill one of their outfield spots.

A three-year deal from one of the six others might be lucrative enough to convince Victorino to give up on his dreams of a future five-year deal. If the others are tossing around those kinds of multi-year offers, then Boston should be out on Victorino, as there is too much risk here that he's going to be a defense-only center field option for the next couple of years.
