After winning two straight games via Jacoby Ellsbury walkoff hits, the Boston Red Sox look to win their third consecutive game and clinch the four-game series against the Cleveland Indians. There will be a new face that will take the mound for Boston this evening.
Pitching for the Red Sox this evening will be left-hander Erik Bedard, who was acquired from the Seattle Mariners at the trade deadline. In his last start with the Mariners against Tampa Bay, Bedard pitched one and a third innings and gave up five earned runs on three hits. To be fair, Bedard was returning from a long stint on the disabled list. In his career against the Indians, Bedard is 2-2 with a 4.44 ERA in 10 starts.
Pitching for the Indians will be former Red Sox prospect Justin Masterson, who will be looking for win number nine on the season. In his last start against the Royals, Masterson pitched eight innings and gave up two earned runs on allowed nine hits. Masterson has faired quite well against his former club, as he is 2-0 with a 1.25 ERA against them. Here is the lineup Masterson will have to do battle with:
1. Jacoby Ellsbury, CF
2. Dustin Pedroia, 2B
3. Adrian Gonzalez, 1B
4. Kevin Youkilis, 3B
5. David Ortiz, DH
6. Carl Crawford, LF
7. Josh Reddick, RF
8. Jason Varitek, C
9. Marco Scutaro, SS
