Game 98: Beckett, Red Sox Hope To Extend Mariner Losing Streak To 14

After defeating the Mariners yesterday, 7-4, the Boston Red Sox look to continue their hot play and win their sixth straight series as they battle Seattle in game two of the their three-game weekend series. The Sox will look to extend their lead in the AL East to potentially three games, with a win and a Yankee loss.

Pitching for the Red Sox will be right hander Josh Beckett, who will look to continue his magical 2011 campaign with the Red Sox. In his last outing, Beckett tossed eight scoreless innings against the Rays, while only giving up a single hit and striking out six in Boston's 1-0 16-inning win. Against the Mariners, Beckett is 3-1 with a 3.11 ERA.

Seattle will counter with young right hander Blake Beavan, who will be making his third career start at the major league level. Beavan last pitched against the Rangers on July 17, where he pitched six and two thirds innings while giving up three earned runs on six total hits. Beavan has yet to face the Sox in his young career.

With a right hander on the hill, the Red Sox will go left-handed hitter heavy. Josh Reddick will once again get some playing time, as he will be in right field this evening and batting seventh in the order. With Beckett pitching, Jason Varitek will be behind the plate and batting eighth. Here is the full lineup:

1. Jacoby Ellsbury, CF

2. Dustin Pedroia, 2B

3. Adrian Gonzalez, 1B

4. Kevin Youkilis, 1B

5. David Ortiz, DH

6. Carl Crawford, LF
