And so the All-Star festivities begin in semi-earnest, with two Red Sox front and center.

The defending champion and captain of Team America(n League), David Ortiz has brought Adrian Gonzalez along for the ride as both a teammate in the new system, and a competitor for the overall title.

Will home runs be hit? Yes. Will someone hoist the trophy? Yes. Will this prove to be anything more than something ESPN Classic or the MLB Network shows in the dead days of summer? Probably not.

But, hey, it's the Home Run Derby! Time for everyone to get their fill of the word "back" for the year and maybe even pretend to care for a day or two.

I already miss real baseball.
