The Red Sox have selected right-handed pitcher Noe Ramirez out of Cal State Fullerton with the 142nd overall pick in the 2011 MLB Draft.
Noe is a soft-tossing righty who relies on a strong changeup to record outs--something which he's done quite a bit of in Cal State. In his last year with the Titans, Noe managed a 1.69 ERA with a 103:20 K:BB ratio and was ranked top-30 amongst college draft prospects by baseball America before the season began.
Still, Ramirez is what he is. He's never going to headline a rotation, light up the radar gun, or contend for Cy Youngs. What he will do is likely make the majors, and hang around for a good while. He might never make the Red Sox' rotation, given the competition, but he should provide them value at some point.
