UPDATE 5:37 PM: It appears once again that the Red Sox are just being extra cautious with injured players, this time with Clay Buchholz.  According to WEEI.com, the Red Sox have placed the ailing Buchholz on the 15-Day Disabled list with a lower back strain.

In his place, the Red Sox will officially call up left hander Andrew Miller, who will make his Boston debut tomorrow night against the Padres.  With Clay out of the fold for a little while, Miller will just simply slide into his position in the pitching rotation, which means Wake will be in the rotation for a little while longer.

11:53 AMAccording to MLB.com, Red Sox starting pitcher Clay Buchholz will miss his next scheduled start due to a sore back.  Buchholz was scheduled to take the mound on Tuesday against the San Diego Padres.  He left Thursday night's game against the Rays early due to lower back tightness.

Red Sox manager Terry Francona will simply delay Buchholz's next start a few days, which could allow him to avoid a possible D.L. stint.  According to Buchholz, the injury is getting better each day and he believes the injury will keep improving.  Francona did not set a specific date for Buchholz's next start.

With Buchholz out of the fold temporarily, the Red Sox will go with Josh Beckett on Tuesday and John Lackey on Wednesday against the Padres.  Andrew Miller, as you know will make his Red Sox debut Monday night in the series opener against San Diego.
