According to ESPNBoston's Gordon Edes, the Red Sox will promote left handed pitcher Andrew Miller from AAA Pawtucket later this week. Edes also reports that Miller will be the starting pitcher for Monday's game against the San Diego Padres at Fenway Park.
Red Sox GM Theo Epstein met with Miller and his trio of agents Wednesday to discuss a plan for him to be called up. Today marked the scheduled day that Miller could simply opt out of his contract and become a free agent if he wasn't called up. They reached an agreement that Miller would be called up to the majors, so he could not exercise his opt-out clause
While there is no clear indication who goes back down to AAA Pawtucket, we can speculate that Michael Bowden will be that guy baring any injury in the near future. Miller joining the rotation means that Tim Wakefield will make his way back to the bullpen, joining Alfredo Aceves as the long men in the pen'.
In his last appearance for AAA Pawtucket, Miller went five and a third innings, allowing a run on five hits while walking one and striking out 10. Overall, he is 3-3 with a 2.47 ERA in 12 starts with the PawSox. Certainly a well-deserved call up.
