The Boston Red Sox look to snap their two-game losing streak and get back on track against the Chicago White Sox in game two of the the two's three game set at Fenway Park. Because of their loss yesterday, the Sox are now in a tie with the Yankees for first place in the A.L. East.
On the mound for the Red Sox will be right-hander Alfredo Aceves, who will be making his third start this season filling in for the injured Daisuke Matsuzaka. In his two starts, Aceves has been very effective fill-in; going 1-0 with a 2.32 ERA in 11 innings pitched. In five career relief appearances against the White Sox, Aceves is 2-0 with a 4.05 ERA.
The White Sox will counter with right hander Philip Humber, who will look for win number four on the season. Humber, a former top-prospect in the Mets farm system, has pitched quite well for Chicago this season. He owns a 3-3 record with a 2.35 ERA in sixty innings of work. He tossed seven strong innings against the Blue Jays back on May 26, allowing six hits and one earned run. Humber has never faced the Red Sox in his career.
Jed Lowrie will make his return to the Red Sox lineup tonight, batting seventh and playing shortstop. Lowrie was held out of the lineup on Sunday with shoulder soreness. With Lowrie back, Carl Crawford will move back into the six-hole. Also, since Aceves is pitching, Jason Varitek will be behind the plate--batting ninth. Here is the rest of the lineup:
1. Jacoby Ellsbury, CF
2. Dustin Pedroia, 2B
3. Adrian Gonzalez, 1B
4. Kevin Youkilis, 3B
5. David Ortiz, DH
6. Carl Crawford, LF
7. Jed Lowrie, SS
8. J.D. Drew, RF
