After winning game one earlier today, the Boston Red Sox look to win the second game of the doubleheader and a series sweep of the Detroit Tigers. The Red Sox will also look for their sixth win in a row, and a chance to extend their lead in the A.L. East even more.
On the mound for the Red Sox in game two will be Josh Beckett, who is looking for win number five and to shrink his ERA (1.69) even more. In Beckett's last start, he pitched six and two thirds innings, giving up one earned run on five hits against the Cleveland Indians. In his career against Detroit, Beckett is 3-1 with a 2.41 ERA in five starts.
The Tigers will counter with their staff ace, right-hander Justin Verlander. Verlander last pitched against the Rays on May 24, going six innings and surrendering six earned runs. Verlander will be out for redemption against Beckett, as he was the loser in the two's meeting back on May 19. In his career against Boston, Verlander is 2-2 with a 2.80 ERA.
Tonight's lineup will only feature only one non-regular, as Drew Sutton will get the start for Jed Lowrie at shortstop after Lowrie played game one earlier today. J.D. Drew will make his return to the lineup tonight, batting eighth behind Sutton. Drew has been battling with a strained hamstring since last week. Meanwhile since Beckett is the pitcher, Jason Varitek will be getting the call behind the plate. Here's full lineup:
