It appears that the preview of what is to come at shortstop has come to end, at least for now.
According to Sean McAdam of CSNNE.com, the Red Sox have optioned young shortstop Jose Iglesias back AAA Pawtucket as they plan to bring up utility man Drew Sutton up for tomorrow's game. Iglesias was called up a little more than a week ago when Marco Scutaro was sent to the disabled list.
Igelsias was primarily used as a pinch-runner, receiving only one start in his five games with the Red Sox. In his four at bats, Iglesias failed to record a hit. Drew Sutton will get the callup as he is more of a ultility player than Iglesias is. In spring training and down in Pawtucket, Sutton has played third base, shortstop second base, and first base for the Red Sox. He also has some outfield experience.
As for Iglesias' short stint with the Red Sox, we saw that he really needs to work on--no surprise--his hitting. With the lone start, we didn't really get to see much of Iglesias' incredible defense as we have seen in the past. He did score two runs while he was in Boston, including a game-winning run last week.
Even though we didn't get to see much of you this time, we'll see you in the near future, Jose.
