The Boston Red Sox open up a crucial series this weekend, and they take on their arch-rivals New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx.  Boston currently leads the overall series lead 2-1.

As we stand right now, here are a look at the A.L. East Standings:

AL East Standings

W L PCT GB STRK
Tampa Bay 22 15 .594 0 Won 2
New York 20 15 .571 1 Lost 2
Baltimore 17 19 .472 4.5 Won 3
Boston 17 20 .459 5 Lost 2
Toronto 17 20 .459 5 Won 2

(updated 5.13.2011 at 5:02 PM EDT)

While Tampa Bay is currently ahead of the standings (somehow), the Yankees sit in second place, four games ahead of the fourth-place Red Sox.  While the season is still young, Boston is playing a whole lot better than when they opened up for the Yankees back in early April.
