It's the home opener today as the Red Sox head to Fenway for the first time this season.
There have been a lot of changes to the team since Thursday's game, with Alfredo Aceves and Felix Doubront making the jump to the majors to replace Matt Albers (disabled list) and Dennys Reyes (designated for assignment). Both should be available to come out of the pen today.
Also new is the Red Sox' lineup, featuring--at long last--Carl Crawford leading off:
1. Carl Crawford, LF
2. Dustin Pedroia, 2B
3. Adrian Gonzalez, 1B
4. Kevin Youkilis, 3B
5. David Ortiz, DH
6. J.D. Drew, RF
7. Jarrod Saltalamacchia, C
8. Jacoby Ellsbury, CF
9. Marco Scutaro, SS
The Yankees return fire with a group that is, once again, proving to be one of the most dangerous in the American League:
1. Brett Gardner, LF
2. Derek Jeter, SS
3. Mark Teixeira, 1B
4. Alex Rodriguez, 3B
5. Robinson Cano, 2B
6. Nick Swisher, RF
7. Jorge Posada, DH
8. Curtis Granderson, CF
9. Russell Martin, C
The first trip through the rotation was pretty awful for the Red Sox, but John Lackey was undeniably the worst, getting chased in the fourth inning while allowing nine earned runs to the Texas Rangers. He'll need to do much better for the Sox to have a chance tonight.
Phil Hughes, taking the mound for the Yankees, was better than Lackey in his first start, but not by a ton.
Can the Red Sox lineup wake up and avoid making Phil Hughes another Cy Young contender? Can John Lackey throw a pitch that doesn't end up in the dirt or down the middle? Will the Red Sox finally win a game?!
God I hope so...
Go Sox!
