Josh Beckett has exhibited symptoms of a mild concussion after being struck in the side of the head by a line drive in batting practice. The team has sent Beckett home to rest, but expect him to be OK to make his Grapefruit League start on schedule. Amalie Benjamin appears to have had the news first.
For those flashing back to 2010 with its myriad bizarre injuries, you're not alone. But if Beckett doesn't miss any time from this, then hopefully we'll all have forgotten about this come April. That seems entirely possible, too. The ball apparently wasn't exactly a rocket, and Beckett was not pitching, but in left field shagging flies when he was struck.
