Red Sox Top Prospect Voting #10: First Pick Gets Ninth Place

New, comments

By, quite literally, the slimmest of possible margins, Kolbrin Vitek has secured his spot on the top prospect list at no. 9.

Vitek, the first player picked by the team in last year's draft, brings to mind one word for me: solid. He can hit a ball, he can take a walk, he can run the bases, and at 6'3" and under 200 pounds he's got some muscle to pack on so he can hit it pretty far.

What's not certain is where he's going to play. Though the Sox had him at third to start the year, it's not clear he'll end up there, and center or right field seem like very real possibilities. But he's got the arm and the leg speed that either location could end up working out.

Once Vitek has another hopefully solid year under his belt, and maybe dumps the positionless tag that probably carries more stigma for him than it should, he could see a nice jump up the list.

1. Ryan Kalish, OF

2. Anthony Ranaudo, RHP

3. Jose Iglesias, SS

4. Felix Doubront, LHP

5. Drake Britton, LHP

6. Ryan Lavarnway, C

7. Stolmy Pimentel, RHP

8. Lars Anderson, 1B

9. Kolbrin Vitek, 3B

You know the drill by now, folks. Prospect profiles can be found here, recs are votes, vote away!
