Game notes:

For the third straight game, the Red Sox will send out the same exact lineup. ... Brett Gardner is back in the lineup for the Yankees after sitting against Jon Lester yesterday. ... There was some debate if Mike Lowell would start over David Ortiz against the lefty Pettitte, but Francona didn't want Ortiz to be "looking over his shoulder over the course of the season. It seems Tito wants to show faith in the slugger, plus Ortiz has a .367 batting average against Pettitte in 58 plate appearances. Last year he went 2 for 5 against Pettitte.
