Red Sox Extend Lowell Spinners' Contract
Red Sox Sign Nate Spears
Per Baseball America, infielder Nate Spears has signed a contract with the Red Sox. Spears, 24, is coming off a bad 2009 where he only managed to post a line of .253/.319/.345 in AAA Iowa (of the Chicago Cubs' system), but was an OBP stud in 2007 and 2008, managing .382 and .394 respectively in AA. Spears can play 2nd, short, and 3rd serviceably. As it stands, he's not much more than a depth acquisition, but given previous years, he might be someone worth keeping your eye on in Pawtucket.
