Boston Red Sox's Julio Lugo gestures between innings after hitting a two-RBI single against the Tampa Bay Devils Rays in the second inning of their baseball game at Fenway Park in Boston Tuesday, July 3, 2007. He had been 0-for-33 and it was his first hit since June 14th.
BOS 4 7 1(Maybe?) TAM 1 5 1 W - Matsuzaka (10-5) L - Kazmir (5-5)THE STARTER:
Daisuke Matsuzaka was the star of the show in yesterday's 4-1 victory over the D-Rays. Matsuzaka went 8 innings, surrendered just four hits, allowed no runs, one walk and struck out 9 batters. He threw 122 pitches, 84 for strikes.
THE 'PEN:
All-Star Jonathan Papelbon made an appearance and only threw one bad pitch, a home run by Carlos Pena that broke up the shutout with two outs in the 9th. Papelbon got a pop out on the next pitch to end the game.
THE LINEUP:
Holy Julio Lugo! He got a hit! Lugo went 2-for-3 in the nine spot with two RBI. He improved his average to .194. In the second, Jason Varitek grounded out to score Manny Ramirez. In the 6th, Varitek hit a sac fly to score Youkilis. Youk went 1-for-3 with two runs and a walk.
THE FIELD:
The only hiccup was when Coco Crisp fielded a Akinori Iwamura ball off the wall, threw to second base, and Dustin Pedroia tagged him, but then dropped the ball. It was marked an error, later changed to a hit, but now I see a box score with the Sox having one error, but no listing of what it was.
WINNER: Gotta' give it to the Dioe-Man.
WINNER: Not Julio Lugo.
