Boston Red Sox right fielder J.D. Drew dives but cannot handle a single by Cleveland Indians' Jhonny Peralta as center fielder Coco Crisp backs up the play in the seventh inning of their baseball game at Fenway Park in Boston Tuesday, May 29, 2007. (Yahoo!)
THE STARTER:
Josh Beckett's return to Fenway was everything Red Sox Nation hoped. Beckett didn't show any signs of rust nor did he show signs of relying on his fastball. Beckett earned the win (8-0) after going 7 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 1 BB and 7 K.
THE 'PEN:
Brendan Donnelly and Javier Lopez combined for a strong 8th inning. Donnelly allowed a hit, but was able to get the first two outs of the inning. Lopez finished the inning off. Hideki Okajima earned the save after walking one and striking out one.
THE LINEUP:
Kevin Youkilis is hot. Not as hot as Jennifer Connelly, though, according to Drugs Delaney. Youkilis went 2-for-4 with a run, an RBI and a solo shot over the monster. Jason Varitek hit his fifth home run of the season in the fifth inning. Varitek finished the night by going 1-for-3 with a run, RBI and a walk. Dustin Pedroia went 1-for-2 with an RBI and a walk. Pedroia is batting .302 on the season.
THE FIELD:
No errors, but JD Drew and Wily Mo Pena didn't look to great in the field tonight. Coco Crisp, however, had great jumps out in center field.
Winner: Josh Beckett and Kevin Youkilis.
Winner: No one I can see deserves The Mendoza tonight.
