I just wanted to reflect on the passing of David Halberstam.
Whether you've read his books or not (I've read The Teammates, a superb look at the friendship amongst Dom DiMaggio, Ted Williams, Johnny Pesky, and Bobby Doerr), let's all take a moment today to remember a man who did a lot for the world, both in terms of tomes of entertainment and those for information (the Vietnam War, most notably).
"He was a brilliant journalist who set the standard during the war in Vietnam for courageous and accurate reporting." -Sen. John Kerry
Halberstam won a Pulitzer Prize for his reporting of the Vietnam War, and was a runner-up for nonfiction for his 2002 work: War in a Time of Peace.
